Do you think your IPL venture will be a profitable business move?
I am not sure. Naturally there will be some cash generated from sponsorships, ticket sales etc., but its still something very new to be certain of. The costs concerned are enormous. I guess ill have to wait until much later to find out on what the earnings will be.

So how is it that you thought of buying IPL team?
Well I was in London recovering from a neck surgery when I used to watch the English Premier League (EPL) and wished if I could own a club in India. But I wasn’t sure about cricket alone, I was thinking more on the lines of maybe football or hockey. But then the IPL was declared, so that’s how it all happened.

So have you been a sports person before this?
I studied at St Columbus School and was always a part of football, hockey and cricket, basically an all rounder with sports. I was a fan of Farooq Engineer and Sunil Gavaskar; I used to be a wicket keeper and would bat around the sixth position.

Why the Kolkata team?
The passion that people have for sports in Kolkata is just amazing. This place is crazy about sports, and I have always been a fan of Sourav Ganguly. I admire the way he plays his game. He is fervent and meticulous.

Do you enjoy watching live cricket?
The first match I ever saw was an India-Pakistan match. And then after that it was the 20-20 World Cup.

Do you have any complaints from life?
I lost my parents quite early. If only they would have been there to share my success with me, apart form those tragedies; life has been rather happy. And Inshallah I have got millions of fans. I feel blessed.
